Description

A creamy hamburger stroganoff without the mushrooms! Major comfort food in my house. This sauce freezes well and it is absolutely fine to use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, milk, and sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces, weight Egg Noodles (or Penne, Fusilli, Farfalle, Etc.)
  • 1 pound Ground Turkey Or Beef
  • ½ whole Medium Onion, Chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, Minced
  • ¾ ounces, weight Dry Brown Gravy Mix
  • 3 ounces, weight Cream Cheese
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 8 ounces, weight Sour Cream
  • 2 cans (10.75-oz Each) Condensed Cream Of Mushroom Soup

Preparation

1. Bring large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add noodles and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain. (If freezing sauce, omit this step until serving day.)
2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey until no pink shows; drain grease. (I like ground turkey for this recipe when I don’t want a heavy meat flavor). Add onion and garlic to the skillet and saute with the hamburger to soften the onions.
3. Mix brown gravy and cream cheese with hamburger until cream cheese has evenly coated the meat. Add milk, sour cream, and mushroom soup to hamburger mixture and stir to blend and heat through.
4. Serve hamburger mixture over cooked noodles or stir the sauce and noodles together before serving.

Notes: I like to double the recipe and freeze half the hamburger mixture for later.

I am looking forward to trying this recipe! I have a stroganoff recipe for round steak, but I’m always looking for something new to do with hamburger…this fits the bill perfectly for my family. We like mushrooms, so I may just add a small can or two.

This is so good! The entire household likes it. I did not find that the dry gravy mix left lumps as the previous review stated. This was perfect just how it is.

This reminded me of what my mom used to make growing up! Really yummy and super creamy. I loved the addition of cream cheese and brown gravy. The only thing I did differently, only because I don’t like the lumps dry gravy mix can leave, is whisk the dry gravy mix with milk before I added it to the hamburger.
