Description

I knew I’d have to doctor up lentils to get my kids to eat them, so I came up with this sweet and savory recipe. It was hit!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lentils, Washed And Drained
  • 6 cups Water, Divided
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 whole Apple, Diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Onion, Minced
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Molasses
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 slices Bacon, Diced

Preparation

Simmer the lentils, 5 cups water, and salt for 20 minutes. Stir in the remaining ingredients and bake at 350ºF for 1 hour. Serve with rice or better yet, buttermilk biscuits.

Lentils are such a healthy food and I love them just cooked with salt but my kids won’t eat them that way. Thanks for this creation. I look forward to trying it and reporting back!

I made it as is, except I added apple juice for the final cup of water. I have some very picky girls in my house and they all ate it with no complaints or drama. I will definitely make again (next time adding more apple and a tad more salt or worcestshire)

This is very good and flavorful. I will definitely be making it again! I used Turkey bacon to make it a little bit healthier.
