Description

Crusty bread hollowed out and stuffed with sausage, cheese, and veggies.

Ingredients

  • 4 whole Bratwurst Sausages
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil, Divided
  • 1 whole Medium Onion (or 1/2 Large)
  • 2 whole Jalapeno Peppers
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 whole 12-inch Crusty Italian Loaf
  • 1 Tablespoon Hot Mustard, Prepared
  • ½ cups Mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1-½ cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Preparation

Brown the bratwurst in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat in 2 tablespoons olive oil. Turn the heat to medium-low and add enough water to cover the sausage. Cover and cook for 20 minutes.

While the meat is cooking, slice the onion, seed and slice jalapenos, and saute in butter and remaining olive oil until slightly browned at the edges. Remove to a plate.

Slice the bread lengthwise, and scoop out the insides (leaving 1/2 inch around). Toast under the broiler.

Mix the mustard, mayonnaise, and honey together for the sauce.

To assemble, spread both halves of the bread with equal amounts of the sauce. In the bottom half, lay the sausages, tuck in half of the cheese, followed by the onion/pepper mixture. Top with the remaining cheese, and put this half under the broiler for a few minutes until the cheese is melted. Cover with the top half of the bread, slice, and enjoy!
