Description

This makes the best chuck roast with gravy ever! You can chop it up for sandwiches, add sour cream and mushrooms and pour over noodles for beef stroganoff, or just eat it as roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. I first made it in the 70s, baking it wrapped in aluminum foil, then when baking bags came out, used them, but the best ever is cooking it in a crock pot. Best of all, it’s so easy!

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Chuck Roast
  • 1 can (10.75 Oz. Can) Cream Of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 package (1 Oz. Packet) Dried Onion Soup Mix

Preparation

Place chuck roast in large crock pot. Spread cream of mushroom soup on top. Sprinkle dried onion soup on top. Cook overnight, or for six to eight hours.

Lives up to its name. I did go with izzardgrl’s suggestion of adding the brown gravy packet. It was fantastic!

I kind of make the same thing, but with a little twist. I mix together the can of mushroom soup, the soup mix and 1 packet of brown gravy mix all together, then I slather all sides of the roast with it. I put the roast in the slow cooker, and add the remaining mixture to the top and sides of the roast. The brown gravy packet just adds a little something that totally changes this, and just makes it even better. Try it and see if you like it.

I did make some adjustments to this, and it was delicious! Since we adore gravy, I doubled by adding a can of cream of celery soup and a package of onion/mushroom soup mix. I also put pepper and worcestershire sauce in it. The meat was falling apart and the gravy was perfect. Thanks!
