Description

Did you know that adding chocolate to a chili dish adds a rich and deep flavor? Well, it does … Adding a small amount of this bittersweet dark chocolate really accentuates the flavor of the beef, making this dish an absolutely wonderful meal for any day of the week. Add in some sweet potatoes and cinnamon and you’ve got yourself a nice little party.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • ½ whole Onion, Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano
  • 1-½ cup Chicken Broth, Divided
  • 2 whole Sweet Potatoes, Peeled And Cut Into 1/2-inch Pieces
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 8 ounces, weight Lean Ground Beef Browned
  • 1-½ Tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 1 piece Perfect Fuel Chocolate, 2 Ounce Piece (or Substitute Bittersweet Chocolate), Shaved
  • 2 whole Carrots, Chopped
  • 1 cup Tomatoes, Chopped
  • ½ cups Tomato Sauce
  • 15 ounces, weight Canned Chickpeas, Rinsed And Drained

Preparation

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and saute for 5-8 minutes, or until softened. Mix in garlic powder and cook, stirring for 1-2 more minutes. Add in cumin and oregano and cook for 30 seconds.

Pour in 1/4 cup broth. Add in chopped sweet potato and cinnamon and saute, covered, for 5 minutes. Add in cooked hamburger meat. Stir in chili powder, then add chopped chocolate, carrots, tomatoes, sauce, and another 1/2 cup broth.

Place lid on the pot and cook for 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring often as to help the mixture absorb the liquid. Add in chickpeas and pour in remaining broth. Cook for 10-15 minutes. Once done, remove from heat and season with salt, if desired. Serve warm.
