Description

This is an Italian dish, similar in taste to a lasagna, yet much quicker and easier to make. It is my go-to dish to take when bringing a meal to someone- a definite hit!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 whole Onion, Chopped
  • 15 ounces, fluid Tomato Sauce
  • 6 ounces, fluid Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 12 ounces, weight No-yolk Noodles
  • 16 ounces, weight Sour Cream
  • 8 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Grated

Preparation

Cook beef, garlic, and onion until beef is no longer pink. Then stir in the next 4 ingredients. Simmer for 30 minutes.

Cook pasta according to package directions, drain, and place noodles in a slightly greased 13×9 pan.

Stir together sour cream and cream cheese. Spread over pasta.

Top with meat sauce.

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese, and bake 5 more minutes.

This freezes well- cut into single serve squares, wrap and freeze for a quick, easy, single serve meal!

I like the concept of this dish and it has great flavor (I added Italian-type seasonings to ours instead of sugar), but it was too rich for us even though I used light sour cream. If I make this again, I’ll need to lighten it up more; maybe by using light sour cream & cream cheese, halving the sour cream/cream cheese mixture altogether and/or doubling the tomato sauce/paste.
