Description

Surprise your family with these tasty burgers! Added bonus, your kids will get in some of their daily fruits.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole Large Red Apple
  • 1-½ pound Ground Turkey
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cups Dried Cranberries
  • 1 whole Egg, Beaten
  • ¼ cups Bread Crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 4 slices Cheese Of Your Choice (optional)
  • 4 whole Hamburger Buns
  • Optional Burger Garnishes: Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Etc

Preparation

Dice apples into small bite size pieces. You could also shred them or cut them up in your food processor.

Season turkey with salt and pepper to taste; the 1 teaspoon of salt is just a safe estimation.

In a large bowl mix together the apples, the turkey and all the remaining ingredients except for the cheese, buns and garnish; combine thorougly.

Make 4 patties and grill over medium-high heat to your desired level of doneness. Place on a bun and top with cheese, cheddar and brie and both delicious.

After I made spinach feta turkey burgers for a barbecue pool party, my boyfriend has been excited about turkey over beef. So I decided to give this recipe a whirl. I doubled it since I can get a club pack of 3 pounds of ground turkey at our grocery store. I used peeled grated apple and didn’t have any issue with the moisture. I also added some minced red onion and some minced fresh rosemary. I omitted eggs since I haven’t had an issue with turkey burgers holding together. With double the posted recipe and my few extras, I made a dozen 0.35 pound patties. Grilled with a slice of smoked Gouda on top, these were delicious! We enjoyed some for dinner and I froze the rest. Thanks for sharing!

These turned out great for me! The taste and texture of the ground turkey was a refereshing change in a burger. Even my boyfriend, who doesn’t like dried cranberries or cooked apples, says he enjoyed them. The only thing their missing is some sort of seasoning or spice…but I haven’t quite put my finger on what kind!

As a side note, I decided to shred the apple, and that method left me with a lot of moisture, so I think I will try and squeeze some of the juices out of the shredded apple with a paper towel next time.

Thanks for posting!

My red meat eating husband was not that big of fan, but I really liked them! I only had Italian bread crumbs and added a few spices.
