Description

Homemade Baking Powder to use in a pinch, or just because you want to be in control of your ingredients by avoiding the aluminum (sodium aluminum sulfate) found in store-bought baking powder.

I found this recipe and just had to share it with you!

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda (aluminum Free)
  • 2 teaspoons Cream Of Tartar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch (Optional)

Preparation

Mix the baking soda and cream of tartar together until well combined. Use immediately.

Yields 1 tablespoon of baking powder.

If you want to make more and keep it on hand, add the corn starch, and mix well. Cornstarch absorbs moisture from the air, and prevents the baking powder from reacting before you need it.

Store in an airtight container.

That’s so cool, thank you! German baking powder is different from American baking powder so I was never able to get the right stuff here, which is why American recipes calling for baking powder failed most of the time. I got a box of baking powder (aluminum free) from Wal Mart on my last vacation, but now I don’t have to worry about it being empty one day.
So yeah, thanks! /mylifestory

I used this in a yellow cake I made and it did wonderful. It seem so much better then using the store bought baking powder. I just mix some up when I need it for baking. I never have to worry if my cakes are going to rise beautifully.
