Description

A special treat for your sweetheart.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Refried Beans, 16 Ounce Can
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Cumin
  • ½ teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Black Pepper
  • ½ cups Water
  • 6 whole Corn Tortillas
  • ½ cups Canola Oil
  • 1 cup Salsa
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1-¼ cup Chopped Purple Cabbage
  • 1 cup Chopped Tomatoes
  • ½ cups Chopped Cilantro
  • ½ cups Chopped Green Onions
  • ½ cups Chopped Lettuce (Optional)
  • 1 cup Sour Cream

Preparation

In a medium size pan add the refried beans, cumin, garlic, pepper, and water. Stir together and warm on low to medium heat.

Put your tortillas onto a cutting board. Cut each corn tortilla into the shape of a heart using a sharp knife.

Heat a small skillet on medium heat and add the canola oil. To test if the oil is hot enough dip just an edge of the tortilla into the oil and if it sizzles the oil is ready and you can add the entire heart tortilla. Cook until each side of the tortilla is golden brown (about 3 or 4 minutes). Remove the tortilla from the oil and set on a paper towel. Repeat until all tortillas are cooked. Set aside.

Spread the refried beans on top of the tortilla shells. Next spread the salsa on top of the beans and top with the cheese, purple cabbage, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, and lettuce (optional).

Add the sour cream to a pastry bag with your favorite decorative tip. Pipe the sour cream around the outside edges of the tostada so that it resembles the look of lace. Or make any decoration with the sour cream you would like. Serve warm or at room temperature for a meal or appetizer.
