Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the sugar and boil until sugar dissolves. Add to 2-quart pitcher.
Add remaining 6 cups water to pot bring to boil. Add tea bags and mint and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Remove mint and tea. Add lemon juice, and add mixture to pitcher.
Serve over ice. Garnish with mint sprigs if desired.
