Description

This is very similar to “That’s the Best Frosting I’ve Ever Had” posted by missydew and recently featured by Ree a.k.a. PW, only my version is CHOCOLATE! I truly believe in my heart that we could achieve world peace by distributing this recipe across the globe. It’s that tasty! Hope it makes it to your cake!

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • ¼ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 3 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Butter, Softened
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 4 ounces, weight Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, Melted And Cooled

Preparation

In 2-quart saucepan, combine sugar, flour and cocoa. With a wire whisk, gradually stir in the milk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until mixture has thickened and boils. Reduce heat to low; cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; cool completely. In a medium bowl, with the mixer at medium speed, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually beat in the milk mixture, melted chocolate and vanilla.

Caution: this is NOT sickly sweet but it is highly addictive! It will never outshine your cake. It is VERY smooth and creamy!

I made this using dark chocolate and it is really creamy. When refrigerated it’s almost like a mousse. I will definitely keep this recipe when making cakes.

I am making another cake that I plan to make the night before (it’s a fancy covered-in-fondant cake) and I wanted to know if you thought this frosting would stand up to being left out for 24 hours or not. Thanks!

I used this frosting for a homemade yellow cake and everyone loved it. I mean, they loved it. I have a friend who hates frosting because it’s usually so sickly sweet, and he thought this was great. It was light and fluffy, the taste was out of this world, and it looked so pretty on the cake! Thanks!!

I made this today, and while it tasted fantastic, it was VERY runny. As soon as it came to a boil, I turned the heat to low and stirred for two minutes, but I’m guessing that I should have let it boil for a minute or two to let it thicken up more. I’ll try it again another time.

This frosting is wonderful! Easy to make with a nice light flavor that doesn’t overwhelm the cake/cupcakes. My go to chocolate frosting!!

I made this frosting for a layered yellow butter cake. It was a complete hit! I forgot to add the vanilla, but it was still delicious, and even held up pretty well in the heat. Love the buttery flavor, and the fact that it isn’t too sweet.

Delicious! I found and made this recipe because I was out of powdered sugar but now I won’t go back to the old version. This is the perfect complement to cake – rich and delicious, but not too sweet.
