Description

A chocolate and caramel-filled sweet oat bar dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter, Melted
  • 1-½ cup Quick Oats
  • 1-½ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1-½ cup Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 50  Individually-wrapped Caramels (approximately)
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 6 ounces, weight Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Combine butter, oats, sugar, flour, and soda. Stir until well combined and crumbly. Press about half of this mixture in the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan. Bake at 350ºF for about 10 minutes, until lightly brown.

Meanwhile, unwrap caramels. Place caramels and milk in a pot, and melt over medium heat, stirring until completely melted.

When crust is removed from oven, immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips in an even layer. Drizzle melted caramel over chocolate. Top with remaining crust.

Bake at 350ºF an additional 15 minutes. Allow to cool before cutting into 24 bars.

I hate unwrapping the caramels, I always try to get my kids to help me because it takes so long! I hope you like them. They’re one of my long-time favorites!

I just pulled these out of the oven so I’m not sure how they came together but I did learn two things! Firstly, unwrap the caramels ahead of time if you can – it takes a surprisingly long time and secondly, if you’re using parchment paper (as I did), be careful to flatten it as much as you can and to seal off the sides and corners ass best you can with the final topping as the caramel bubbles over. All that said, it was very easy to make!
