Description

These easy brownies, with nuts and caramel, are always a hit! Very sweet and gooey. There is a plumber that likes these so much that he actually asks for these as payment instead of money when he comes to fix something at our house.

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces, weight Package Of Caramels, Unwrapped
  • ⅔ cups Evaporated Milk, Divided
  • 1 package (18.25 Oz. Box) German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • ¾ cups Butter, Melted
  • 1 cup Chopped Pecans (or Walnuts)
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9”x13” baking pan.

Melt caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk in the microwave; set aside.

Mix together cake mix, melted butter, remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and nuts.

Press half of the dough mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Bake for 6 to 7 minutes and remove from the oven.

Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on the baked layer. Drizzle melted caramel over the chocolate chips and drop remaining dough by small spoonfuls over the caramel. It is okay if there is some caramel showing through—that looks yummy!

Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 16 to 18 minutes.

Cool. Cut into squares. Enjoy!

TaineAH, thanks for that idea! I will definitely try adding unsweetened cocoa powder next time I make these. I usually think they are a little sweeter than I needed them to be, and that would probably help a lot!

To die for! I was going through my family’s recipe box to put our recipes on here, and my Aunt Ann uses this same recipe for her turtle brownies. One additional, optional thing she adds to the recipe: 2 Tbsps dry unsweetened cocoa powder. It. Is. AWESOME.

I have made this same recipe for 35 years now and it is so easy to change up—I use caramel from a tub located in the produce section next to the apples instead of melting caramels–I hate to unwrap the sticky caramels–sometimes I put Heath pieces inside or white choclate chips or mint chips–so many ways to customize–I even added instant coffee granules to the batter–amazing ways to change it up! No one drinks instant coffee here but I buy it for frosting, cakes, and to enrich ice cream drinks–like they to to be richer! Leslie

Truly amazing! I made these for the office and people immediately came to me with chocolatey-caramel breath to thank me! This is marvelous!

These were so good! I thought the caramel was perfect. Gooey but not too sticky. Family and friends enjoyed them.
