Description

We make these cookies every year for Santa. They are yummy with or without icing.

Ingredients

  • 2-½ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Cream Of Tartar
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1-½ cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • ½ teaspoons Almond Extract

Preparation

In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. In a large bowl, blend butter, powdered sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined. Cover and chill about 2 hours.

Heat oven to 375ºF. Cover work surface with a little flour. Roll dough out on floured surface until desired thickness (I generally roll out to about 1/4 inch thick). Cut into shapes and bake until the edges are light brown and the cookies have set, usually 7 or 8 minutes.

Once cookies have cooled completely, decorate with icing and sprinkles. They are also tasty without any extra decorations. Serve with a tall glass of cold milk.

Best sugar cookies ever! I have trusted this recipe for the past few Christmas’ now. I’ve shared it with friends, who then raved about how yummy they are. As I pulled the recipe up to make them yet again this year, I noticed it has never been reviewed and had to give it a 5 star rating!
