Description

Not sure who originated this recipe, but it was handed down to me from my Mother. Easy, delicious, moist cake made in a 1″ deep jelly roll or cookie sheet (10×15). The best fudgy icing ever.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ½ cups Sour Cream
  • 2 cups Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1 cup Water
  • 4 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • For Icing
  • 6 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 4 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1 pound Confectioners Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Black Walnuts (or Nuts Of Your Choice)

Preparation

1. Cream first 3 ingredients (sugar, eggs, sour cream).
2. Sift together 3 dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda).
3. Add creamed ingredients to flour mixture and blend.
4. Bring to boil the next 3 ingredients (butter, water, cocoa).
5. While still hot add boiled mixture to flour mixture.
6. Cream until light and fluffy, but do not over beat.
7. Pour onto jelly roll or cookie sheet which has been greased with butter and floured.
8. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
9. About 10 minutes before cake is finished baking, bring to a boil next 3 ingredients (milk, butter, cocoa).
10. Add to hot mixture the next 3 ingredients (confectioners sugar, vanilla and walnuts).
11. Pour icing on cake while it is hot out of the oven or it will not cover the cake.
12. Icing will set up like fudge. Let cake cool and enjoy!
