This is a simple almond pastry from my great aunt’s recipe collection.
For the crust:
Mix the crust ingredients with a pastry cutter, fork or your fingertips, as you would a pie crust, until you have a loose dough. Pat the crust into a 13 x 9 pan.
For the filling:
Put water in a saucepan. Add butter and heat to boiling point, then remove from heat. As you remove it from heat, add the flour and stir until smooth.
Beat eggs in a bowl. Temper eggs with a bit of the flour mixture. Beat the egg mixture into the flour mixture. Add almond extract then spread onto crust. Bake 55-60 minutes in a 350° oven. Let cool.
For the drizzle:
Mix together powdered sugar, melted butter, almond extract, and cream. Drizzle over pastry.
