This cake is so good, it may be a sin. It’s a bit complicated (I had to keep double-checking the recipe to see what I was supposed to be doing with my strawberries) but none of the steps is particularly hard. Keeping my fingers out of the frosting bowl? That was hard.

This is one delicious cake! Moist, flavorful, beautiful… It was devoured by family and friends in no time flat! I used lower-fat ingredients like lite sour cream and neutchafel instead of cream cheese, but it didn’t compromise the taste or texture at all.
The recipe was pretty simple, but there are lots of steps so you really should read through the recipe before you begin in order to allow enough time for each step.
I will definitely make this again and again.

This is definitely a keeper! This cake tastes absolutely delicious. I did make one change though. I didn’t have any cream cheese in the house but I had a tub of cool whip. I used that as frosting instead of making the cream cheese icing. Next time I will try it with the cream cheese icing but the cool whip worked great.

Made it today in my several week long testing of cake recipes for an upcoming family reunion. It’s fabulous! The only thing I did differently was use a 9″ springform pan instead of an 8″ cake pan. Thanks, Ree!

The second I saw this cake I had to try it! However, after three attempts at it, I was stymied. All three came out more then edible, and were finished without hesitation, but the cake bit itself never came out to my satisfaction. Each time it was heavy and brick like, not the dense fluffyness that it was supposed to be! The frosting and strawberry’s came out amazing though, and more then compensated for it.
I’m quite prepared to say that it was all my fault and not the recipe’s at all, but after three attempts I’m stumped as to what I was doing wrong.

This is a really beautiful cake, but it definitely requires a large group to consume it!

I just made this for the first time on July 3rd for a fiesta that I went to. It was a huge hit, so I made one yesterday too for the 4th of July and I decorated it with blueberries and strawberries to look like the American Flag. It was great!! So good and delicious, and scrumptious, and amazing! Make it, make it now!! You won’t be sorry.

I made this cake twice. Once for my daughter’s birthday in November and then just yesterday for the bridal shower I hosted for my sister.
I thought the cake was really good. Though as someone else mentioned, it’s not quite as light and fluffy as I would have liked. But I was reluctant to use more of a ‘normal’ style cake because I worried that it wouldn’t stand up to the strawberries.
The one thing I wasn’t so fond of with this cake was the frosting. It was so overly sweet, I thought. I’m sure for some, it was great, but if you tend to not like frosting or find it too sweet, this frosting will likely be too sweet and rich for you.
But, I have the perfect substitution for you! Yesterday I used this frosting from TK instead: http://tastykitchen.com/recipes/recipes/desserts/whipped-cream-cream-cheese-frosting/
And it was PERFECT!! It was sweet, but not too sweet, and the flavor was great! I highly recommend this cake with the whipped cream cream cheese frosting!
Everyone at the bridal shower loved it! (well, not that you can expect them to be honest!)
Thanks for the great idea and recipe, PW!

I’ve made this cake twice now, and it’s been a big hit both times!
I made two changes:
(1) I baked the cake in two pans (since I don’t have a tall enough cake pan to bake the whole thing at once) and reduce the baking time accordingly.
(2) I put all the strawberries in the middle, and none on top.

We love this. I made this when my sisters were here visiting. I also made your chocolate sheet cake and homemade ice cream. I ended up with more dessert than dinner. That’s how we roll around here.

My new daughter-in-law to be came out in July and we made this cake for my niece’s wedding shower. First we made a test cake for our guys and it was a huge hit then we made it for the shower using a little less frosting. It was a huge success. I will make this again and again!

I’ve been searching for the ultimate strawberry cake for a very long time now and think I may have found it. The only problem is that now that I’ve made it I’ve been the only adult in the house for a few days, with no one coming by for tea or coffee and, well, my waist is starting to feel a little bigger. But, it’s so totally worth it. The only thing I changed when making it was the icing. I didn’t have enough sugar and butter but had a little over the amount of cream cheese. I ended up using (in metric, sorry), 300g cheese, 450 or so sugar and about 200g butter. It was still really good. I may even cut back even more on the sugar last time because I like the contrast between it and the sweetness of the cake and fruit.

This cake is quite tasty, but I found it to be a touch too sweet. Perhaps my berries were just very sweet, but next time I’ll cut down on the sugar just a little bit. Regardless, it didn’t last long in my house!!

I’ve gotten nothing but rave reviews for this cake. It’s now also my husband’s favorite cake. It was a bit time consuming to make the first time, but it is so worth it. Excellent cake!
