Description

Crisp and buttery, these Spritz Cookies are a festive holiday tradition in Germany and Sweden.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Sifted All-Purpose Flour
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • ¾ cups Butter, Softened
  • ½ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg Yolk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • As Desired For Garnish: Red And Green Sugar Sprinkles, Red Hots (Small Cinnamon Candies)

Preparation

Before you begin, refrigerate several un-greased cookie sheets.

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Into a medium-sized bowl sift flour with salt and set aside.

In a large mixer bowl, beat the butter, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.

With the mixer on low, beat in the flour mixture one third at a time, mixing until smooth and well combined.

Assemble and fill a cookie press with the dough, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Stand the press upright on a cold cookie sheet. Squeeze out enough dough to form the cookie shape on the disk, and release pressure, lifting up slightly to cut off the dough. Continue with the rest of the dough. Cookies should be spaced about 1 1/2 inches apart on the tray. Decorate with the cinnamon candies and colored sugar.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until a light golden color is reached. Remove pans from oven and move cookies to a wire rack and cool.

Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
