Description

I found this recipe a few years ago, and now it is a tradition to make them at Christmas. They are soft and chewy and addicting!

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Butter
  • ½ cups Shortening (Do Not Use Margarine)
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • ½ cups Molasses
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 4 cups Flour
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 2-¼ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 2-¼ teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 1-½ teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1-½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, shortening and sugar until light colored and fluffy. Beat in molasses and eggs. Add one cup of flour, alternating with the rest of the dry ingredients, until it is all mixed.

I like to refrigerate the dough for 1/2 hour. It makes the dough easier to work with, but that is up to you.

Roll into 1″ balls and roll in sugar. I like to use red, green and white sugar at Christmas time. Place on a baking mat 2″ apart and bake for about 12 minutes or until they start to crackle.

Cool on a wire rack and watch as they disappear!

These cookies are AWSOME! They are crisp but chewy and have such a delicious spice to them. YUM! They are even better hot out of the oven!
