Description

Our family favorite frosting recipe. My grandmother used to make this when she lived in Peru. It is so easy and really good. It’s my go-to recipe when I’m making chocolate cake.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 6 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 cup Boiling Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Preparation

Mix cornstarch and sugar in a saucepan. Add cocoa and pinch of salt. Add boiling water. Cook until thick. Add butter and vanilla. Spread on cake just out of the oven.

Made this tonight. I haven’t tasted it with the cake yet, but I thought the frosting looked and tasted a lot like pudding! So it’s pudding soft not fluffy soft. I wanted to try it because it didn’t have a crap ton of butter in it.
Just a note, I halved the recipe because I only made a 6″ cake and it made around 1 cup of frosting.

OMG. Deliciously chocolately. Richer than I was anticipating, gloriously so. Very versatile, I’ve been very creative with it. Will definitely make this again.

This is very good – easy to make, smooth to eat, and even doubles as an ice cream topping. This recipe makes quite a large amount of frosting – you could easily frost 2 9 inch cakes with this amount. I used it for a marble cake, and it complemented the flavors in it wonderfully. Great recipe – thanks for sharing!
