Description

My granny’s recipe, and a very popular cake in Germany!

Ingredients

  • 2-⅛ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1-⅛ cup Sugar
  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons Dutch Cocoa
  • 1-⅛ cup Red Wine
  • 5 ounces, weight Semi-sweet Chocolate

Preparation

Preheat oven to 320 degrees.

In a bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder. Set aside.

Put the butter in a separate bowl and beat until fluffy. Then add the eggs, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and the dutch cocoa and beat again until smooth. Then beat the flour-baking powder mixture in and also the red wine.

Mix the chopped chocolate carefully into the batter.

Pour the batter into a greased pan and bake for about 50 minutes.

Glaze with molten chocolate if you like and sprinkle some sugar sprinkles over the cake before cooling.

Hey, thank you so much!!
I would suggest something dry, because it adds a special flavor to the cake I personally like very much… you need to report me if you made it, I would be excited to hear what how you liked it

What a cute cake! I’m so curious what it tastes like. I’ve never heard of a cake made with wine before! Out of curiosity, what type of red would you suggest? Something sweet or something dry? Thanks for the add, by the way. Looks like we’re neighbors
