Description

This is slightly adapted from a recipe which was my husbands Grandmother’s. It’s definitely a winner!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups Apples (peeled & Sliced)
  • ¾ cups White Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Plain Flour
  • Cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1-½ cup Plain Flour
  • 1 cup Butter Or Margarine

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Combine peeled and sliced apples with white sugar and 3 tablespoons of flour. Place onto a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle cinnamon over the apples if desired.

Put brown sugar, rolled oats, and 1 1/2 cups flour into a large bowl and combine with butter (or margarine). Spread this mixture over the apples and place in the oven.

Bake for 40 minutes at 375°F

Enjoy!

I haven’t used the quick oats in this recipe before, I usually use the ‘old fashioned’ type oats.

I have used quick oats in cookie recipes that called for rolled oats and it works kind of ok, but it’s not exactly the same, it gives them a more ‘gummy’ type consistency.

Looks yummo! stupid question…is ‘rolled oats” the same as “quick oats” that I make oatmeal with? If so, then I have everything to make this this week!
Thanks!

I’ve made this several times since discovering it. So yum! I’d read the comment about melting the butter and since I don’t have the patience for cutting butter in to the oats, I sort of half-melted it and my crumble also turned out cookie dough-esque. I was still able to sort of crumble it just fine. Will make many more times!

Five mitts for being easy and tasty! I melted the butter before combining the ingredients for the crumble top. It made the crumble more like a cookie dough, so I kind of pressed it on top of the apples. Can’t wait to make this again!!

We made this tonight–so delicious and super easy! I sliced the butter into pats and tried to distribute them evenly with the topping, since the recipe didn’t really specify how to combine the butter and topping. If I had a pastry blender I might have tried that.
