Description

Yum! My girls can’t leave it alone. Which is good, because then I’m not forced to consume it on my own.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Quick Oats
  • 1-½ cup Flour
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Peanuts Optional (OR Substitute Crunchy Peanut Butter)
  • 1 cup Margarine, Softened
  • 1 can (14 Oz. Can) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • ⅓ cups Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup M&Ms (Dark Chocolate Is My Favorite)

Preparation

Combine oats, flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and peanuts (or crunchy peanut butter) in a large mixing bowl. Cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly.

Set aside 1-1/2 cups of the crumb mixture. Press remaining crumbs into an ungreased 9×13 pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.

In another bowl, mix together milk and creamy peanut butter; blend until smooth.Immediately on removing pan from the oven, pour this mixture over the crust. Next, top with reserved crumbs. Then sprinkle M&Ms over the top.

Return to the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes before slicing.

These are EXCELLENT! I used Easter (milk chocolate) M&Ms and they were so PRETTY! Sent them to work with my husband and can’t wait for the compliments to roll in. Will definitely think of these when holidays roll around. Used butter vs. margarine. Used peanuts vs. crunchy peanut butter but will try it out with the crunchy peanut butter with my next attempt. CLARIFICATION: use creamy peanut butter with the sweetened condensed milk part and OPTIONALLY use peanuts OR crunchy peanut butter OR neither in the “crust” part. This was QUICK to put together and EASY clean up. I found the bars cut tidier when fully cooled. I also found the taste best after fully cooling. My next batch will be cut into 36 bars (6×6) rather than 24 (6×4). They were really too large in my opinion. Believe it or not I work the Weight Watcher program and this pan makes 8 Points Plus bars if cut into 24 OR 6 Points Plus bars if cut into 36. Tip: When making the “crust” part, I found it totally easy to cut in the butter with my hands. I couldn’t find my pastry blender, but my hands worked even better. Good job, Rozanie!!! Thanks for sharing. If I misspoke about the directions, please clarify, but that’s what worked for me. You deserved a review! Jeanne
