Description

This is THE brownie recipe that I remember from my childhood. We made these brownies all the time when I was a kid and they are just as good now as they were back then. Fudgy chocolate brownies with a smooth and creamy peanut butter frosting. Yuuuummmmmm!

Ingredients

  • FOR THE BROWNIES:
  • 4 whole Squares Unsweetened Chocolate OR 3/4 C. Baking Cocoa
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup All-purpose Flour
  • ½ cups Creamy Peanut Butter
  • _____
  • FOR THE FROSTING:
  • 1 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
  • ½ cups Butter
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 6 Tablespoons Milk

Preparation

For the Brownies:
In a small saucepan, melt chocolate and butter. Set aside and allow to cool slightly.

In a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add chocolate and butter mixture and mix well. Add flour, stir until combined. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Dollop peanut butter onto the top of the batter and swirl through with a knife. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

For the frosting:
In a medium saucepan, melt peanut butter and butter together. Mix in powdered sugar. Add milk a few tablespoons at a time until desired consistency (it should be somewhat thick but not too thick). Beat until smooth.

Pour over warm brownies and allow to cool, if you can wait that long.

For those of you having trouble with your icing being too thick, make sure you add enough milk to get a nice consistency. It should be pourable but not runny. : )

Yum! I think next time I will use crunchy PB for some texture in the icing or add walnuts to the batter. :D

I just made this and the brownie is awesome…chocolaty with creamy smooth pb taste. Yum. I had problems with the frosting though…came out very oily and not very smooth at all. Should I have left the mixture on the stove while mixing in the powdered sugar? I ended up adding more sugar and then another tbsp of milk before stopping before I made a disaster. I used the frosting, but kind of pressed into onto the warm brownies instead of spreading. Tastes great.

These are really good! If you like peanut butter and chocolate you’ll love them! They were easy to make too.

These are awesome!! I made them for a church dinner and anyone who liked chocolate and peanut butter raved about them. I did put the peanut butter icing on the brownies while they were pretty hot because my icing was still too thick to “pour” , it was more dump out and smear. :-). It melted just enough to be smooth. The finished product (not to mention the batter that Ihad to “test”) was deliciously moist and wonderful.
