Description

Want to make your house smell like home? These cookies have the perfect blend of aromatic spices and it rates right up there with other welcoming scents such as freshly baked bread or chocolate cake. AND, they’re the perfect blend of crisp & chewy texture…

BONUS: this is a one-bowl recipe…if you’ve had practice at estimating, you can get away with using one mixing bowl, one measuring cup, and one measuring teaspoon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter, Softened
  • 2 cups Raw Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 1-¼ cup Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Cloves
  • ½ teaspoons Allspice
  • 3 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • Powdered Sugar For Dusting, If Desired

Preparation

*I like to use raw sugar, but if you’d rather use regular, use 1 cup white and 1 cup brown sugar to equal two cups…

Blend the butter and sugars together. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Measure and add the flour and spices in the order listed right over the top of the creamed mixture. Give them a quick stir with a fork to combine the dry ingredients on top before beating them into the creamed mixture. Stir in oats.

Drop by cookie-scoop-fuls onto a cookie sheet at least 2″ apart (these spread!). Bake 350F for 10 minutes. Do not over-bake…edges should be barely golden. Let sit on cookie sheet 5-10 minutes after removing from the oven, then remove to wire rack and cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, for the lace-effect.

Store in an airtight container if there are any left… Since they smell sooo good, you can’t keep it a secret that you’ve been baking.

Thanks for the review, Pooskie. =) I would DEFINITELY recommend using parchment paper for these cookies…sorry I forgot to mention it before!

I didn’t have any Allspice, so I just added in some nutmeg. These cookies are really good, a little chewy and light. You can def taste the spices, which I love.

One problem I ran into after the first batch was that the cookies stuck pretty bad, and I kind of ruined several. I sprayed the pan the next time (the recipe doesn’t state to do this…) and I also only let them hang out on the pan for about 3-4 min after removing from the oven.

I’ll make these again, because A: EASY B: TASTY
