Description

Chocolatey oatmeal bars.

Ingredients

  • 2-⅓ cups All-purpose Flour, Divided
  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Oats
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 2 sticks Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1-½ cup Walnuts, Chopped
  • 1 cup Caramel Ice Cream Topping

Preparation

This is a recipe from Miss Sophie, used with her permission.

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Combine 2 cups flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Add butter; stir until all ingredients are moistened. Reserve 1 cup of the crumb mixture and set it aside. Press remaining mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 13X9 baking pan.

Bake at 350 F for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Remove from oven; sprinkle with chocolate morsels and walnuts.

Combine caramel topping and remaining 1/3 cup flour in a small bowl; drizzle over the crust. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.

Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes more or until browned. Cool completely in pan before cutting into bars.

These bars are wonderful. I made them with sea salted almonds instead of walnuts as I am not a big walnut fan and they were yummy!! Thanks for the recipe~

I made these for a teacher luncheon at my kids school…my daughter got stopped in the hallway by one of the teachers and she begged her for the recipe! She said they were sooo good that the teachers fought over the last one!

These are simple and good.
I also substituted pecans for the walnuts. And since we are not huge on eating nuts, only used about half the amount called for.
