Description

When you have a craving for Chocolate Cake, look no further. This Chocolate Cake is the best! So easy, moist and so delicious. I have shared this recipe with so many friends over the many years that I have been making this cake.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • ½ cups Fry's Baking Cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Water
  • ¾ cups Vegetable Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • _____
  • FOR THE FROSTING:
  • 1 carton (250ml Carton) Whipping Cream, Whipped
  • 1 cup Cold Milk
  • 1 package (3.9 Oz. Package) Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

For the cake:
Measure first the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Stir. Make a well in the center of bowl. Add water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Pour into a greased 9×13 baking pan. Bake in the oven for 35 minutes until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool. When cake has cooled, frost with frosting.

For the frosting:
In a bowl beat whipping cream until stiff. Set aside. In another bowl, beat the milk and pudding mix together for 2 minutes. Fold in the whipped cream. Spread over the cooled cake. Serve. Refrigerate any leftovers.

I initially wasn’t going to make this cake once I saw that it contained 3/4 cup of oil. Than I reminded myself that I regularly add that or more butter to baked goods without batting an eyelash. So, I went for it. What I loved about this cake was how easy it was to make with my 4 year old. There are no raw eggs to worry about her handling or ingesting. It’s alsovery moist cake, that the frosting compliments nicely. The flavor was good, but it wasn’t the rich chocolate flavor that I was craving. My only other complaint is that for me the 35 minute recommended cook time was too much. I took it out (thankfully) at around 32 minutes and it was already getting a little too brown around the edges.
