My mini donut maker came with several recipes but I played with a box cake mix as a shortcut. When it was time to make them a second time, I realized that not all box cakes call for the same amount of oil, water, eggs, etc. So this is the specific revision for Duncan Hines Devil’s Food. If you get a different brand of cake mix, use the following as a guide and aim for a consistency similar to a cheesecake batter.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, egg, oil and water and stir to combine. This is your donut batter. Then, cook the donuts per manufacturer’s instructions for your donut maker. (Note: In gauging how to adjust another brand/variety of cake mix, please note that this box mix called for 3 eggs, 1/2 cup oil and 1 1/3 cups water. Again, I played with the ratios to make the consistency of the batter similar to cheesecake batter.)
Decorate with frosting and sprinkles, as desired.
