Description

My mother made the best sugar cookies. When she died, the only recipe I could find was a list of ingredients and “bake for 8 minutes”. After 5 years, I finally have unlocked the mystery. The key is rolling out the dough on powdered sugar! Try them, you will amaze people!

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Butter
  • ½ cups Shortening
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • Confectioners Sugar

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

1. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar in mixer.

2. Add eggs, one at a time.

3. Add vanilla.

4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, soda, powder, and salt.

5. Add dry ingredients to sugar mixture until just combined.

6. Turn out dough onto plastic wrap and form into a flat disc or square. Refrigerate at least 20 min. to overnight.

7. Sprinkle powdered sugar on work surface and/or rolling pin and roll out dough. Cut into desired shapes.

8. Refrigerate cookies 10 to 20 min. (this will help them retain their shape while they are baking)

9. Bake for 8 minutes (I like to turn after 4 minutes to ensure even cooking).

10. Frost and Enjoy!
