Description

This chocolate spice meatball cookie is chock full of nuts, raisins and chocolate chips, spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and can be topped with a sweet glaze. It was introduced to me by my mother-in-law and now it’s my favorite Christmas cookie.

Ingredients

  • ½ cups Shortening
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • 3 whole Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • 3 cups Flour
  • ⅔ cups Cocoa Powder
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Allspice
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Nutmeg
  • ½ cups Milk, Approximately
  • ½ cups Chocolate Chips
  • ½ cups Chopped Walnuts
  • ½ cups Raisins

Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar in a large bowl, then add eggs and vanilla.

Stir together dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder, salt and spices.

Mix dry ingredients into the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk until it’s a nice thick cookie batter consistency. Stir in the chocolate chips, walnuts and raisins. Ultimately, I end up sticking my hands in the dough to finish the mixing.

Roll into balls and then flatten them on cookie sheets. Bake in a 350F oven for 10 minutes. Cool completely. Makes 4 dozen cookies.

If you wish to glaze these, you can use a simple powdered sugar and milk glaze.

These are excellent! Made them for Chrustmas this year, and everyone asked for the recipe. They taste kind of like a chocolatey gingerbread, but the nuts and chips and raisins (yum!) really make it special. The glaze was really nice too, for extra sweetness and a little bit of extra texture when you bite into it! I will definitely be making these again :) Thanks for the great recipe!

Oh my goodness! Yum! I just took out my first batch and ate one of course! Tip: Take note of possibly not needing all the milk. I skipped that part (my fault) and so I have traditional cookie shapes rather than balls, but that’s ok :)
