Description

Southern comfort cake is what it should be called.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 1 box (18 1/4 Oz. Size) Yellow Cake Mix
  • 4 whole Eggs
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ⅛ cups Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ⅔ cups Oil
  • FOR THE ICING:
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350ºF.

In a large bowl, take the cake mix, eggs, sour cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, honey, cinnamon, and oil and mix well. (See note below.)

Pour your cake mixture in a prepared pan of choice (i.e. bundt pan or square pan) and bake for 40-45 minutes. Once your cake is done, set aside and allow to cool.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla for the icing. Pour over the cooled cake and let stand for 15 minutes before serving.

Note: The traditional way to make the honey bun cake is to mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together in a separate bowl. Then mix the cake mix, eggs, sour cream, extract, honey, and oil together. In your pan of choice (i.e. bundt pan or square pan) pour half of the cake mix in your pan, sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon on top, then pour the rest of the cake mix on top of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. I just prefer not to follow that method.
