Description

A yummy, icy treat to keep in your freezer in the summertime.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Grape Juice
  • ½ cups Sugar
  • 2-½ cups Cold Water

Preparation

Combine grape juice with sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 8 to 9 minutes, or until mixture is slightly syrupy.

Turn off heat and pour in cold water, then pour into a freezer-safe container with a lid. Wait two hours, then remove container from freezer and stir gently, being careful to loosen any of the mixture that has stuck to the sides. Put lid back on, then return container to the freezer. Repeat an hour later, then another hour later. When you’re finished, the mixture should be totally frozen and broken up. Keep sealed tightly in the freezer until ready to serve.

I made this for Father’s Day and it was a BIG hit with the kids and the grown-ups!

I made the lemon and pomegranate/blueberry. I think you can use any flavor juice that floats your boat – I found the pom/blueberry at Big Lots for $1 and it was wonderful! My 14 year old nephew has already asked me to tell him how to make it so he can make more!

I had to freeze mine a lot longer … I’m not sure if that’s because I needed to reduce it a little further or if it’s just because my freezer isn’t turned down enough.

Try it!

I used a strawberry-kiwi juice and it was delicious. Though I also had to let it freeze longer than 4 hours.

I made this Grape Granita yesterday. It was so simple to make! I put it in the freezer at 12:30pm and after stirring it once an hour felt that it was ready and completely frozen around 9pm. My husband and I each had a bowl for dessert and he said it was very refreshing. I can’t wait to try more flavors!

I made this with my kids using cranberry pomegranate juice. They loved it so much, they passed up regular ice cream for the “pink ice.” After the pink one was complete, we made a limeade version that we shared with friends. Since there was no color to the limeade my BFF’s son thought I was giving him shaved ice only. After slurping down the first bowl, he asked for seconds and thirds. Very refreshing and tasty! (I had a deeper pan so I had to freeze it longer as well.)

I made this and it’s great dessert to have on a hot Texas evening. Doesn’t melt right away. I did have to freeze it longer, probably because my container was deeper than Ree’s. It’s very easy and very tasty!

i used this (and your lemon granita recipe) to inspire an orange/lemon granita, a strawberry/lemon, and a strawberry/lime granita. Each time comes out great! I used excess garden strawberries to make a syrup… yummmo!! I live w/multiple sclerosis, so I try to avoid overheating ~ these make a delicious way to stay cool! …and i agree with melyndalaine when she talks vodka ~ i used some of the strawberry batch for margerita’s adding tequila! ;D
