Description

My grandma found this recipe in the newspaper, back in the 1940′s. The recipe was submitted by the Red Cross. It’s a family favorite. Feel free to change up the kind of chips to your preference- half butterscotch/half chocolate chip is really good.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 (13 Ounce) Can Evaporated Milk
  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla
  • 2 Cups Miniature Marshmallows
  • 1 (18 Ounce) Bag Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • 2 Cups Chopped Nuts, Such As Pecans Or Walnuts

Preparation

Butter 9×13 pan and set aside.

In a large pot on stove, turn on heat and stir together with a WOODEN spoon – sugar, evaporated milk, butter and vanilla- until it starts bubbling. Once it starts bubbling, set timer for exactly 11 minutes and keep stirring constantly.

When timer goes off, turn off heat and remove pan. Add marshmallows, chocolate chips and nuts.

Beat with wooden spoon until marshmallows and chocolate chips are dissolved and mixture is smooth.

Pour mixture into prepared 9×13 inch pan.

Cool at room temperature, and when cooled and slightly soft, cut into serving size pieces.
