Description

These irresistible cookies were perfected in my Grandma Jean’s kitchen. They are a favorite among my entire family and it’s nearly impossible to eat just one. These are the perfect cookies to bring to a party because the dough can be chilled overnight and baked just before you are ready to leave.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups Shortening
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 1  Egg
  • 1 cup Sugar (plus Extra For Rolling)
  • ¼ cups Molasses

Preparation

1. Melt shortening and let cool. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and ginger.

2. In a large bowl, combine egg, sugar, molasses, and melted shortening and beat with an electric mixer until well combined. Add the flour mixture to the bowl and beat until it is well incorporated. Wrap the dough in wax paper and chill for at least 1 hour.

3. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375ºF. Shape tablespoon-sized portions of the dough into balls and roll them in the extra sugar to coat. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for about 10 minutes.

These came out absolutely yummy! These cookies spread so I did leave about a 2 inch space in between each. I also pressed them down a bit before baking. Out of the oven they are very soft, so I let them set on the cookie sheet a few minutes before transferring to a cooking rack. They made exactly 24 delicious cookies. Thanks for sharing this prize recipe!
