Description

Seriously fudgy hot fudge sauce that firms up ever so slightly when poured over ice cream to form caramel-like ribbons of chocolatey goodness. Oh yes. It does.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 6 ounces, weight Unsweetened Bakers Chocolate
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • ½ cups Light Corn Syrup
  • ¾ cups Boiling Water
  • 1-½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Salt

Preparation

Melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally. Stir in sugar, corn syrup, and boiling water. Increase heat to medium and stir mixture until it reaches boiling. Boil without stirring for 8 minutes. Really. Do not stir that stuff.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. It will bubble up violently, so be careful.

Let rest for 5 minutes before pouring into a heat-proof container with a tight fitting lid. (A canning jar works perfectly for this situation.) Be certain the container you use is small enough to fit into the microwave for reheating purposes.

Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator.

To reheat: Remove lid from the jar and microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir. Heat in additional 10-second bursts until the hot fudge flows freely when poured.

My mimom makes her own hot fudge. We use cocoa powder and don’t add the butter until the end. The rest of the ingredients and steps are similar. I can’t wait to give your recipe a try! Thanks for sharing.

This is the BEST hot fudge sauce, and easy to make too. Great to give as gifts

This is SOOO good! I reheated mine in a pot of hot water on the stove ( I don’t have a microwave) and it was wonderful!

Made this tonight, and drizzled over sundaes. Sublime. And wicked easy to make. Can’t get this type of heaven from a store. @sailorrae mentioned loving it right away, so perhaps her problem was putting it in the microwave? That certainly can change the chemical reaction between ingredients in some dishes.

sorry, I so wanted to like this and thought I would. I made it as written and tasted it when I put it into the jars and thought wow…this is good. We had some later that night heated up in the micro-wave and put on ice cream. It left a bad taste in my mouth the rest of the evening….almost made us sick. I had to throw it out. A big waste of money. sorry. : (
