Description

This is THE pound cake! The recipe is handed down from my husband’s family — when I got the recipe, I knew I was in the fold.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks Butter, Softened To Room Temperature
  • 3 cups Sugar
  • 6 whole Eggs, Room Temperature
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoons Butter Flavoring (optional)
  • 3 cups All-purpose Flour
  • ¼ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Sour Cream

Preparation

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a 10″ bundt pan.

Using a stand OR hand mixer, cream together butter and sugar until pale yellow and fluffy.

Add eggs in one at a time, thoroughly mixing after each egg. Add in vanilla and butter flavoring (if using).

In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Add the flour mixture and sour cream alternately to the batter. Batter is VERY thick!

Add batter to pan, smooth top. Bake for 1 hour, 25 minutes (those with newer ovens, or ovens that run hot, start checking your cake at the 1 hour or 1:15 mark — you don’t want a dry cake!)

Cool on a rack in the pan for 15 minutes, then turn out of the pan and continue cooling. Enjoy!

This was wonderful. I made this tonight for dessert for a small dinner party for my husband . This was the first dessert he has had after 3 dental surgeries over 5 months . I know that may not sound like much, but we have had 5 months of agony as they fitted him for dentures. Thank you so very much…everyone wanted the recipe.
