Description

A delicious bar using this popular Fall fruit… A cookie-like crust with a crumbly topping and cinnamon glaze.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE COOKIE CRUST:
  • ½ cups Butter, Softened
  • ¼ cups Shortening
  • ¾ cups Confectioners Sugar
  • 1-½ cup Flour
  • _____
  • FOR THE APPLE LAYER:
  • 2 cups Peeled, Cored And Chopped Apples
  • ¼ cups Butter, Melted
  • ¾ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg, Slightly Beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1-¾ cup Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • _____
  • FOR THE CINNAMON GLAZE:
  • 1-½ cup Confectioners Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoons Nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 Tablespoons Milk

Preparation

First, make the crust: Cream together butter, shortening and confectioner’s sugar. Blend in flour. Pat into a 9×13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

While that is baking, prepare the filling. Stir together chopped apples, melted butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Spread over cookie layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.

For the glaze, combine confectioner;s sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in milk as needed until smooth then glaze bars while still slightly warm.

Enjoy these delicious squares warm or cold.

I just made these, and they are great. I skipped the glaze because I just wanted to eat one. I don’t expect them to last very long. I will make these again. Thanks for a great recipe!
