Description

Homemade strawberry jelly filled glazed doughnuts! Your family will devour them!

Ingredients

  • 2-¼ ounces, weight Envelopes Of Active Dry Yeast
  • ½ cups Warm Water
  • ⅓ cups Warm Milk
  • 3 whole Egg Yolks
  • ⅓ cups Butter, Melted
  • ½ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3-½ cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1 bottle Strawberry Jelly (about 10 Tablespoons Worth - Split Between The Doughnuts)
  • ½ gallons Oil, For Frying
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • ½ teaspoons Salt
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla
  • ½ cups Cold Milk

Preparation

In a large bowl dissolve yeast in the warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes. Then add milk, eggs, butter, sugar and salt. Mix together well.

Add the flour and mix until dough forms. Place dough in a large greased bowl. Cover and let rise for one hour or until double in size.

After dough has risen, punch down and knead for 2 minutes. On a clean, floured surface, roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and with a 2 inch round cookie cutter, cut out into 40 circles.

With half of the circles (20) place 1/2 tablespoon of jelly in the center. Cover with another dough circle. Pinch together sides to seal shut. Place all the jelly filled dough circles on greased cookie sheets. Cover again, and let rise for 1 hour.

While doughnuts are rising start heating your oil. It needs to be 375 degrees to fry the doughnuts.

Fry doughnuts for 1 minute per side, or until golden brown.

For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar, salt, vanilla and cold milk together. Drizzle over the warm doughnuts!
