Description

A great recipe for gifts or just for hoarding in your own freezer!

Ingredients

  • 24  Vitamin C Tablets (500mg Tablets)
  • 13 cups Water, Divided
  • 24 whole Apples, Peeled, Cored And Sliced
  • 2-¼ cups White Sugar
  • 2-¼ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoons Ground Nutmeg

Preparation

To prevent browning, crush Vitamin C tablets and place them in 8 cups water. Soak the apples in this solution to prevent browning.

Place the remaining 5 cups water in a large (emphasis on large) pan. Combine the remaining ingredients and add to the water. Stir well and bring to a boil. Keep stirring and boil for 2 minutes.

Drain the apples and add to the large pan with the boiling mixture. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook the apples only for 6 minutes more.

Cool for 30 minutes and ladle into freezer containers, allowing plenty of head space for expansion.

Can be frozen for 12 months.

This recipe produced 6 quarts of apple pie filling.

I am so sorry, but do you thaw and put into an already baked crust, or do they still need to bake?
