Description

My version of Oreo Truffles. An easy, yummy treat that will wow all of your guests!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Oreo Cookies (about 3 Sleeves)
  • 8 ounces, weight Cream Cheese, Softened
  • ½ teaspoons Vanilla Extract (various Extracts Will Change Flavor Slightly)
  • 1 pound Wilton Candy Melts, Dark Chocolate
  • ½ pounds Wilton Candy Melts, White Chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon Vegetable Oil

Preparation

Note: make sure you use Oreo brand cookies. Store brands have differing amounts of cookie and filling. The flavor changes a LOT with a different brand. Lesson learned the hard way!

1. Open Oreo cookies and scrape filling into a separate bowl.
2. Using a food processor, grind the cookie part of the Oreos into a fine powder.
3. Combine Oreo powder, the filling, cream cheese, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly, until no white traces remain and the mixture is dark and moist.
4. Line two cookie sheets with waxed paper.
5. Roll the mixture into small balls and place on the waxed-paper-lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate for 45 minutes.
6. Using a double-boiler, melt the dark chocolate. Dip the balls in the melted chocolate and coat thoroughly. With a slotted spoon or toothpick, lift the balls out of chocolate and let the excess drip off. Place on the other lined cookie sheet.
7. Place white chocolate and vegetable oil in a sandwich bag (unsealed). Microwave for 20 second intervals until all the chocolate is melted and mixed with the oil.
8. Cut a small corner off the bag and drizzle white chocolate over the truffles. Let cool.
9. Store in an airtight container, in the refrigerator.

Variations:

1. Substitute white chocolate with other colors of candy melts for different occasions.
2. Substitute white chocolate drizzle with a sprinkling of chopped nuts or sprinkles.
3. Skip the chocolate dip and roll truffles in chopped nuts, sprinkles, cocoa powder, etc.
4. Can’t find the Wilton chocolate? Try another brand of candy making chocolate. In a bind? Substitute Wilton chocolate with semi-sweet morsals. You will lose some of the “look” but it won’t affect the flavor!

I do this! It’s great. An easy variation that is always a big hit is to add some mint extract to the cookie mixture. Yum!
