Description

A quick idea to please a 7 year-old doughnut lover.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE GLAZE:
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar
  • ½ cups Milk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract (or Other Flavoring Of Choice)
  • 4 drops Food Coloring
  • _____
  • FOR ASSEMBLY:
  • 3 boxes Doughnuts (1 Dozen Per Box)
  • 1 box Doughnut Holes (1 Dozen)
  • Candy Sprinkles, For Topping

Preparation

First make glaze.
Mix the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract and food coloring together. Put in microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. More powdered sugar or milk can be added to get the right consistency. You could also mix first, without food coloring, then separate into bowls and add food coloring to each for more colors of glaze.

Now for assembling:
I built this cake on a 12 inch cake plate. For each layer, dip doughnut in glaze and place in a circle on cake plate/board. The bottom layer was 7 doughnuts in a circle and 2 in the middle. Each layer is 2 doughnuts high. (So the bottom layer is 18 doughnuts.)

The next layer uses the same process, only I used 5 doughnuts in a circle and 1 in middle. (Again 2 doughnuts high, so 12 doughnuts for this layer.)

The next layer is 3 doughnut in a circle, none in the middle (no room) and again 2 doughnuts high (6 doughnuts total for this layer).

Finally I took the doughnut holes and dipped them in glaze and placed them throughout the layers to fill holes. Then I sprinkled candy all over.

* I heated my glaze periodically, this helps “glue” the layers together.
** Also, make sure to not get this glaze too runny. You want it a little thicker or else you end up with puddles of glaze on the cake plate.
*** You could also use some of the left over glaze to pour over the entire cake. Very pretty.
