Description

You’ll never eat boxed brownies again! My mom found or made this recipe and it’s been a hit for years. Really easy and always a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients

  • ⅓ cups Butter
  • ¾ cups Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 bag Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips (12oz), Divided
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • ¾ cups Flour
  • ¼ teaspoons Baking Soda
  • ¼ teaspoons Salt

Preparation

• Preheat oven to 325F and grease/flour a 9×9 or 9×10 baking dish.

• Over medium heat in a small saucepan, combine the butter, sugar and water; bring just to a boil.

• Remove from the heat, and add half of the chocolate chips (1 C.); stir until melted into the butter/sugar mixture.

• Stir in the vanilla and the eggs one at a time until combined.

• Add flour, baking soda and salt; stir to combine.

• Last, add in the remaining chocolate chips.

• Once combined, pour into the baking dish and bake for approximately 35 minutes. The smaller the pan, the longer the bake time. Once a toothpick comes out clean, they are done.

You’re right, I’ll never make box brownies again! Thanks for such a great recipe, these are certainly the best we have ever had, very rich and delicious. My pan was a little smaller, 8-1/2 inches, so I had to cook mine for about 50 minutes, as opposed to the folks who cooked theirs for less time. I think it would be pretty simple to double the recipe, also, in a larger pan. I’ll be keeping extra chocolate chips on hand now just for brownies, and the teens will be so happy! Thanks, Andrea

These brownies were great. One of the best recipes I’ve tried.. I agree with chocolatetart though, they needed less time, I had to scrape off the upper layer of mine.
Thanks! Will definitely do them again and keep a closer eye on the oven

I made this tonight and it was lovely…I used a small oven and I think 25 mins would have been better… not too sweet, just perfect!

This is a great recipe! One of the best from scratch brownie recipes I’ve found. I’ll definitely be making them again.

The batter tasted great! Unfortunately, in the end it wasn’t too good in my opinion. I do not consider myself a good baker at all, but I have made better. :(

Excellent!! Easy to whip together…my 8 yr old son helped me with the stirring! I substituted 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract for the 1 tsp vanilla. So much BETTER than the boxed ones! You are so right! I will never buy them again. I kept a close eye on the time but with my 9″ square pan 35 minutes was right on!Thanks for a great keeper recipe!

These brownies were great. One of the best recipes I’ve tried.. mine needed less time than suggested, I had to scrape off the upper layer of mine.
Thanks! Will definitely do them again (as soon as I find chocolate chips in Chile, ’cause they’re not in my supermarket anymore, *sniff*!) and keep a closer eye on the oven.
