Description

These Depression-Era Oatmeal Cookies are made with bacon drippings rather than butter. And then I added some chocolate chips and bacon…’cause why not?

Ingredients

  • ¾ cups White Sugar
  • ¾ cups Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ¾ cups Bacon Drippings, Room Temperature
  • 2 cups Old Fashioned Rolled Oats
  • 1-½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1-½ cup All-purpose Flour
  • 4 pieces Bacon, Cooked And Chopped (optional)
  • 6 ounces, weight Chocolate Chips (optional)

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the white sugar, brown sugar, egg and bacon drippings. Add the oats, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, flour and mix well. If you like, then gently fold in the bacon and chocolate chips.

Using your hands shape the dough into 1 1/2″ to 2″ cookies. Place on ungreased cookie sheets and bake for ten minutes or until done.

So everyone who ate these loved them except me. I thought they were a little too crunchy and the bacon taste was too strong. But being in the vast minority, I know it must just be me. Very popular with men!
