Description

An easy way to add sophistication to traditional chocolate cake.

Ingredients

  • 1-¾ cup All-purpose Flour
  • ¾ cups Cocoa Powder
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1-½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • ½ cups Vegetable Oil
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1-½ cup Sweet Red Wine (such As Port Or Other Sweet Red Wine)
  • ½ cups Boiling Water

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350F.

Sift flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Set aside.

In another bowl, beat together sugar and oil. Beat in one egg at a time until just combined. Alternate mixing in dry ingredients and red wine. Lastly, stir in boiling water.

Pour batter into a greased and floured bundt pan. Bake 40-50 minutes (this will vary depending on your oven). It’s done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow to cool completely, turn onto a plate, top with chocolate ganache (optional) and serve!

I was a little hesitant with the large amount of liquids, but it baked up wonderfully moist! I set the oven for 50 minutes and at 45 minutes checked and it was done. I served this after Christmas dinner and everyone loved it. The wine flavor was nice but not overwhelming. I ran out of chocolate, and had no time to get to the store. It really didn’t need the frosting honestly.

Will make this again!
