Description

This is one naughty pie.

Ingredients

  • 6 whole 1.55 Oz. Hershey's Chocolate Bars, With Or Without Almonds
  • ½ cups Slivered Almonds, Divided (optional)
  • 8 ounces, weight Whipped Topping
  • 1 whole 9" Graham Cracker Or Cookie Pie Crust (a Baked Pastry Pie Shell May Be Substituted)

Preparation

Begin by melting the chocolate bars over a double boiler, stirring until smooth. (I don’t own a double boiler, so I use a mixing bowl over a sauce pan. It works like a charm.)

Once melted, if using the chocolate bars without almonds, slightly crush 1/4 cup slivered almonds and mix into the melted chocolate. (If you don’t like almonds, or are like me, forgetful, skip the almonds altogether.)

Next, add the whipped topping, gently mix and pour into prepared pie shell.

If using the almonds, evenly spread the remaining 1/4 cup of slivered almonds on the top of the pie.

Cover and refrigerate for about four or five hours, or until firm. If needed, speed up the firming process by putting covered pie in freezer for about an hour, then refrigerate for another two hours.

I bought everything I needed to make this and put it in the pantry to use later. The grandkids came up for the weekend and… ate up the candy bars! And the graham crackers and helped their grandpa eat most of the oreos I had saved to sprinkle over the top. I guess I will have to go shopping again!

I melted some peanut butter and spread it in the bottom of the graham cracker crust. I also used real whipping cream. (My husband is a purist.)

Right now I am talking myself out of eating it before it has chilled sufficiently.

Believe it or not, I do not care for Hershey chocolate (love the town, not the chocolate!), so I am thinking that using 6 Dove bars (maybe 3-4 milk chocolate and then 2-3 dark chocolate) would be pretty wonderful. Think I woudl also use toasted almonds (in oven or skillet and Trader Joe’s also carries bags of already toasted slivered or sliced almonds). And a little whipped cream on top

The pie looks great, but I LOVE your plate! It looks like a pattern my grandmaothe had from Germany.

It was easy to make and the filling reminded me of the filling of a 3 Musketeers bar. Tasty!

Very easy to pull together and I so wanted to like it, but it turned out way too sweet for us! Maybe using part semi-sweet chocolate would take the sweetness down a notch or two like westcoastswedishgirl said. I’d be willing to give it a try!

Hard to mess this recipe up but mine came out way darker than the pie shown in the picture and it was really thick and over the top rich. Think I’ll stick with French Silk.

Wow! This is so easy to make. It’s delicious and incredibly rich. I agree with Momma Libby’s review in thinking that you could use bars without almonds. As I was eating this pie I couldn’t help but think of the different versions that you could make. This could easily be turned into a French Silk Pie by not using nuts and topping it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings…or layer sliced bananas in the bottom of the pie crust before adding the filling for a Chocolate Banana Pie….or make pie as directed and top with cherry pie filling for a Chocolate Cherry Pie. YUM! This pie is outstanding!
