Description

A spin on traditional apple crisp, making it just a bit spicier for the holidays or the “everydays.”

Ingredients

  • 5 whole Apples
  • 1 whole Lemon, Juiced
  • ¼ cups Granulated Sugar
  • ¼ cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoons Cardamom
  • _____
  • FOR THE TOPPING:
  • 1 stick Butter, Softened (1/4 Cup)
  • ½ cups Rolled Oats
  • ½ cups Flour Or Almond Meal
  • ½ cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoons Cardamom
  • ½ teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 1 pinch Salt

Preparation

Preheat your oven to 350° F.

Start with the apples. Peel them all and slice them thinly, placing them in a large bowl. Squeeze the lemon juice over them and toss to prevent browning. Then add the granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon cardamom and mix it together well, evenly coating the apples.

In a separate bowl mix together the butter, oats, flour/almond meal, brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, the ground ginger and a pinch of salt for good measure. Mash it all up until it’s sticky and clumpy.

Lightly grease the inside of a 2-quart baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Dump in your cinnamon apples. Pour on your topping mix and evenly cover the apples. Place in the oven and bake for 1 hour or until apples are nice and soft and the top starts to turn more of a golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve with your favorite brand of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. Caramel sauce is not optional. It is essential.
