Butter a 9×13-inch pan. Set aside.
For the bottom layer:
Melt butter and marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, stir in rice cereal. Press lightly into the prepared pan, but don’t pack it down.
For the middle layer:
Combine caramels, sweetened condensed milk and butter in a microwave safe bowl. Put them into the microwave and heat on low power for 30 seconds at a time until fully melted and smooth. Make sure to stir between each 30 second heat burst. Pour the melted caramel evenly over the bottom cereal layer.
For the top layer:
Melt butter and marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, stir in rice cereal. Drop blobs evenly over the caramel layer. Do not press it down.
Cool to set.
**Note: The caramel layer will want to ooze in warmer temperatures, so these may need to be stored in the refrigerator.
**To make half the recipe one can sweetened condensed milk is about 1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. Use equal parts rice cereal to marshmallows for top and bottom layers. You really can’t screw it up!
