Description

Ooey gooey chocolate dessert made in a Dutch oven over the fire.

Ingredients

  • 1 package (18.25 Oz. Box) Chocolate Cake Mix; Prepared As Directed, Replacing Water With Dr. Pepper
  • Dr. Pepper, To Be Used With The Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 can (20 Oz. Can) Can Cherry Pie Filling
  • 1 package (8 Oz.) Brick Cream Cheese
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Preparation

Preheat and line the Dutch oven with foil. Pour prepared cake batter (using the Dr. Pepper instead of water called for in the box instructions) into a 12″ Dutch oven. Spoon cherry pie filling into clumps over the cake batter. In a small mixing bowl, cream together cream cheese, egg, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Drop by tablespoonfuls over the top of the cake.

Place the lid on the Dutch oven. Bake using 8-10 briquettes in the bottom and 14-16 briquettes top for 1 hour or until the top center of the cake springs back when touched.

Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream as topping.

I made this over the weekend. I only had a german chocolate cake mix, so that is what I used. The dessert tasted good, but next time I will double the cheesecake part and maybe the cherry part. When the cake was done, all of the cherry and cheesecake was on the bottom, I don’t know if this is because I didn’t preheat my Dutch Oven.
