Description

Super easy and tasty cobbler when you just don’t have time for the other kind.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.25 Oz. Box) Yellow Cake Mix
  • 2 cans (21 Oz. Can) Fruit Pie Filling Of Your Choice
  • Cinnamon, To Taste
  • ½ cups Butter

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour both cans of fruit filling in a 9×13 pan, spreading evenly in the pan. Pour yellow cake mix over the pie filling and smooth it out by hand. Pour the melted butter over the cake mix, covering completely. Sprinkle cinnamon over the butter. Place in the oven and cook for 30-35 minutes (see note below), or until golden and bubbly.

Note: after 10-15 minutes, remove the cobbler from the oven to make sure that the butter has melted and covered all of the cake mix. If there is still dry mix showing, cover that with more butter or the cake mix will not cook properly. Place back in the oven.

Truly a delicious recipe, both as written and as a basic recipe to which you can add your personal touch. I usually add 2 pints of fresh fruit – blackberries, blueberries, strawberries or plums – along with some additional spices (nutmeg, allspice, ground ginger, etc.). I also sprinkle a cup of brown suger on top to make a strudel effect before adding the nuts.

But the recipe as written is delicious. Thank you!

I made this with fresh blueberries, cooked slightly, and lemon cake mix. No cinnamon. Wow! (I also tried melting the butter and mixing it with the cake mix before putting it on the berries. I’d try both …

This is definitely 5 mitts for ease, for being delicious and for being so adaptable. The results are outstanding – and to think it’s all from canned fruit and a boxed cake mix. My grandsons love making this with me and, at 6 and 8, this is easy even for them. Typically I add fresh fruit to the canned ones: blackberries, blueberries, strawberries – usually 2 pint size containers of whatever is in season. I might also fiddle with the topping – sprinkling a mix of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground ginger, a pinch of cloves along with a cup of brown sugar. It just depends on how much time I have.

This is an excellent recipe both as written and as a springboard for experimenting. Thank you!
