Preheat oven to 350ºF.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together softened butter and sugar for 30 seconds. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and cloves. Add dry ingredients into egg mixture alternately with applesauce, continuing until mixed well. Stir in raisins and nuts.
Pour into a greased 9×9 pan and smooth the top. Bake for 45 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and allow cake to cool.
Serve with whipped topping or ice cream.
